Abstract

This paper discusses understanding, misunderstanding and not-understanding of German dialect expressions. Reactions indicating understanding, misunderstanding and not-understanding in discourse are listed and examples from a medical corpus, analysing the reactions of non-dialect speakers talking to dialect speakers, are discussed.
